The Fiscal Specialist is responsible for the overall functions of the bookkeeping (postaward) section of the Research Center for all grants and contracts awarded to faculty in the College.

Mrs. Chavez is responsible for the daily administration of Grants and Contracts in the pre-award process. Her main objective is to provide professional expertise and guidance to faculty on the proposed development, preparation of budgets, and submission of proposals.

Ms. Swanson monitors the grants and contracts from the State of New Mexico agencies, U.S. Department of Education, U.S. Department of Agriculture, Army Research Office, Federal Bureau of Investigations, National Institute of Justice, Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Department of the Interior, National Institute of Standards, Office of Naval Research, U.S. Department of Defense, Air Force Office of Scientific Research, National Security Agency, Housing and Urban Development, Department of Energy, U.S. Department of Transportation, U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Reclamation, National Park Service, U.S. Geological Survey, LANL (Los Alamos National Laboratory), Sandia Laboratory, Argonne Laboratory, City of El Paso, SCERP (Southwest Center for Environmental Research and Policy), WERC (Waste-management Education and Research Consortium), National Center for Research Resources, and National Cancer Institute.

Ms. Swanson is responsible for keeping up-to-date balances on each account (including Cost Share accounts where applicable) on a day-to-day basis, reconciling our stand alone accounting system against the NMSU Business Office system, requesting no-cost extensions and budget revisions from agencies on behalf of the Principal Investigators, and preparation and submission of close out documents to the agencies. The most important responsibility of Ms. Swanson's position is determining the allowability of expenses within the guidelines of Federal regulations, State regulations, Agency regulations, NMSU regulations, and the Federal Cost Accounting Standards (CAS).

Mr. Thompson monitors grants and contract from, NIH - MARC, RISE, CDC, Bridges. NMEH, ITS/Geology. MiniGrants for A&S, Service Accounts - Glassblower, Machine Shop, Electronic Shop, EML, DNA Sequencing, LEEG, Ecology Chem Lab. CPB/PBS - KRWG TV & FM
